Stellenbeschreibung: Intro We are looking for an exceptional individual to join ExoMatter as a Scientific Software Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing scientific code for the calculation of new materials and their properties to further develop our Materials R&D platform. Become part of a young deep tech and software startup based in Munich and revolutionize materials development with us. ExoMatter is a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and part of the UnternehmerTUM family of startups. We have a first product on the market with paying customers like Airbus and BSH and a strong upward trajectory. Why are we doing this? Tasks As a Scientific Software Engineer, you will join the Engineering Team and make sure that scientific code runs scalably on a cloud-based platform. You work at the intersection of software engineering and computational materials science You will use scripts, data and scientific literature researched by our internal science team to build high-quality code in python You will implement scientific calculations such as thermodynamic and physical calculations and combinatorial approaches Occasionally, you will implement in-house calculation routines using first-principle methods such as Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Molecular Dynamics (MD) as well as internally-developed Machine Learning Models to calculate material properties You will report directly to the CTO Requirements Ideally, you have a background both in (computational) materials science and Software Engineering at a software company. You hold a degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or similar, ideally with a PhD You are familiar with materials simulation methods such as DFT at least conceptually You have at least one year of relevant professional experience Fluent in spoken and written English, German skills are a plus You live in Munich or want to move to Munich within 3-4 months and are then willing to work ca. 50% of your time on-site Not required, but a plus: Experience working on AI/ML within Materials Science Dev Ops and Cloud Computing Knowledge Experience in materials simulation both in the space of polymers and inorganic materials You have worked using agile methods such as Scrum before Benefits Competitive package of salary, (virtual) stock options, and benefits Attractive company culture in an early-stage startup 50 EUR per month pf public transportation ticket for Munich and entire Germany (Deutschlandticket) covered Flexible work hours with strong focus on work-life balance far beyond industry standard Free choice between latest ThinkPads or MacBooks for personal and private use Full time position, part-time work possible upon agreement Hybrid work with flexible arrangement between on-site work in new Munich office and remote work Closing Start date: 17 Feb 2025 or as soon as possible
